Online Beginners’ Guide to Mindfulness Meditation Workshop

REMEMBERING THE PRESENT

A Beginners’ Guide to Mindfulness Meditation

The practice of mindfulness lies at the heart of the Buddha’s teaching and has recently been taken up in contemporary psychology. This online workshop will explore the nature of mindfulness and its practice as taught by the Buddha. Once we understand the basic principles underlying mindfulness, we can then apply it to any situation in our lives.

The workshop is designed for beginning practitioners, as we will assume no prior knowledge or experience. Experienced practitioners may find the workshop helpful to fill any gaps in their understanding. We will have dhamma talks, guided practices, group discussions and periods of independent practice. We will also engage in stretching exercises to cultivate a posture of ease and steadiness to help our minds to settle and become clear. Please wear loose and comfortable clothing suitable for bodywork.

Dāna

This workshop is being organised by Sasanarakkha Buddhist Sanctuary (SBS), which is a Theravāda Buddhist monastery and meditation centre. It follows Buddhist tradition in that it sees the dhamma to be of such great value that it cannot be bought or sold, it can be transmitted and received only as gift. This is dāna, which in the Pali language means “giving” or “gift.” In this spirit, SBS and Patrick are offering this workshop as a gift. You are encouraged to return this gift in the form of financial support. As a gift is not a payment for service, the amount you choose to give is entirely up to you. Giving dāna is a declaration of mutual respect between giver and receiver, and a practical way of supporting the cultivation of Buddha Dhamma.
